At Fleetware, we think it’s important to play our part in the global effort to increase equality and the quality of life for the millions of people who are much less fortunate than us. So, every month, we set aside a percentage of our subscription income to be donated to various causes.
We use an organisation called B1G1 which ensures that 100% of our giving goes towards the causes of our choice. This month, our focus was providing rechargeable, solar lighting to those that need it most.
So, in November we supplied:
- 7 months of access to solar panels and lighting kits to families in rural India
- 7 months of access to solar panels and a lighting kit to a family in Cambodia
- 2 years of access to solar panels and lighting kits to families in Malawi
Lighting Up Tribal Communities in Rural India
Families living in rural, tribal and forested regions of India continue to live without access to safe and reliable electricity, relying instead on costly or unhealthy alternatives. Installing solar lighting units in these households will provide clean, sustainable energy that immediately improves daily life. These solar units will reduce indoor air pollution, ease essential tasks like cooking, and give children the light they need to study after dark.
The implementation of this project in Mulshi, a block in Maharashtra’s Pune district where remote tribal communities live far from developed areas, highlights the profound impact that solar solutions can have. With more than 38,000 homes in the region and many still disconnected from the grid, this project is working urgently to bring light, opportunity, and healthier living conditions to families who need it most.
Solar Kits Bringing Bright Futures to Rural Cambodia
In rural Cambodia, access to reliable electricity is still out of reach for many families, limiting their ability to work, study, or run small businesses after sunset. By providing a solar kit, households can extend their productive hours into the evening, create safer and more comfortable living environments, and reduce dependence on kerosene lamps that contribute to both indoor air pollution and health risks.
Each kit includes a solar panel, battery, controller, LED lights, a fan, and phone-charging accessories – supplying four to five hours of clean, dependable power. Through this initiative, 262 families have already been equipped with solar lighting solutions, positively impacting the lives of more than 1,000 people.
Empowering Malawi Through Solar Energy
In Malawi, where more than 80% of families are left in darkness after sunset and rural electrification rates sit as low as 4%, access to safe, reliable energy remains a daily challenge. Many households rely on firewood and candles, exposing families to harmful smoke and contributing to ongoing deforestation.
This project is training local women to install solar systems, opening the door for clean, renewable energy to reach the homes that need it most. Each installation replaces hazardous lighting with safe, sustainable power, giving children the opportunity to study after dark, enabling families to work and move safely, and helping women earn income through maintaining the systems. Beyond lighting homes, this initiative empowers communities, supports education, protects the environment, and brings lasting change to villages across Malawi.
