At Fleetware, we think it’s important to play our part in the global effort to increase equality and the quality of life for the millions of people who are much less fortunate than us. So, every month, we set aside a percentage of our subscription income to be donated to various causes.

We use an organisation called B1G1 which ensures that 100% of our giving goes towards the causes of our choice. This month, our focus was providing electricity and light for those who most need it.

So, in November we supplied:

  • 1 year of solar lighting for a community in India
  • 4 months of access to a solar kit for a family in Cambodia
  • 4 months of access to a solar lamp for a family in Kenya

Solar lighting after dark

In India, many of the communities living in the slum and street-dwelling areas in Rajasthan don’t have access to electricity. Individuals often rely on unhealthy, inefficient and dangerous alternatives for lighting, and without adequate light, the safety of vulnerable individuals, women and children in particular, is placed at risk. A lack of access to electricity also impacts the health and education outcomes of the community. Children cannot study effectively after dark, and health services are compromised without proper lighting. This project seeks to provide light to these communities by distributing sustainable, reliable solar lights to those that need them most. Additionally, this project hosts workshop sessions with members of the community to educate them about the benefits of solar lighting, proper usage, and maintenance. Solar lights provide so much more than simply light after dark, they improve living conditions, safety, education, and overall quality of life.

In Cambodia, we provided four months of access to a solar kit for a rural family. These kits consist of a solar panel, battery, controller, LED lights, a fan, a phone charger and adapters. When fully charged, these kits can provide four to five hours of power to run two lights, a fan and a phone charger! Children can now read and study after school, and small businesses can continue to operate during the evening pollution-free by removing the need for kerosene lamps. Allowing families to continue to work after dark and children to continue studying not only benefits their income and education – it helps to lift them up out of poverty. This project has already provided 262 families with these solar kits, and more than 1,000 individuals are already reaping the benefits!

In Kenya, we provided four months of access to a solar lamp for a family. A small solar lamp can make all the difference, helping to extend the working day into the evening hours after the sun has set. With solar light, families can eat meals in the evening with light and children can continue to study after dark. Not only do these lamps contribute to improving children’s literacy rates and education, they reduce the danger of fire and reduce local air pollution caused by traditional kerosene lamps.
