At Fleetware, we think it’s important to play our part in the global effort to increase equality and quality of life for the millions of people that are much less fortunate than us. So, every month, we set aside a percentage of our subscription income to be donated to a variety of different causes.
We use an organisation called B1G1 who ensures that 100% of our giving goes towards the causes of our choice.
With International Women’s Day falling on the 8th of March, it was only fitting that our focus for this month was supporting women and girls from around the world!
So, in March we supplied:
- 420 days of access to personal hygiene kits for girls in Kenya
- 80 days of vocational education and training for women in the Philippines
- 1 year of financial and business training for women in Burundi
Personal hygiene kits
In Kenya, many women and girls living in poverty cannot afford to purchase disposable pads. As such, they are forced to resort to unsanitary and unhygienic substitutes that can often lead to later infection. With the lack of sanitary period products available, girls will often miss a week of school to stay at home, missing approximately 10 weeks of school every year! By providing these girls with 420 days of access to personal period products, we are not only improving their hygiene and comfort – we are helping them to stay in school, maintain their dignity, and allow them to pursue their education, uninterrupted.
Vocational education & training
In the Philippines, young women from working-class families or poverty stricken backgrounds face multiple challenges when it comes to accessing higher education and gaining decent employment. Tourism is a large industry in the Philippines, however, individuals can only advance within it if they have access to the continued education required to develop the key skills desired by employers. Access to continued, higher education is then often privatised, meaning that it becomes completely impossible for these women to access the training they need and gain an adequate source of income.
By providing 80 days of vocational training in the hospitality industry, we are enabling these young women to learn valuable skills – opening the door of opportunity for better employment and a brighter future. This training not only upskills these women technically and practically, it gives them the chance to become financially independent and break the cycle of poverty.
Financial & business training
Burundi is a low income country and ranks 185 of 187 countries by the UN. Statistics estimate that the number of people living on less than $1.90 per day was 7.1 million – 74% of the population! With these statistics in mind, supporting this initiative was a no-brainer! Providing a year of financial and business training to Burundian women means that they become equipped to manage their finances, start and grow businesses, and contribute to the economic development of their communities. This training not only provides the foundation for building a business and generating income – it empowers women to unlock their full potential and make a meaningful impact in society.
We thank all our customers for continuing their support for Fleetware and our giving efforts. These initiatives are more than just numbers. They represent real change and opportunities for brighter futures for women and girls from around the world.
