At Fleetware, we think it’s important to play our part in the global effort to increase equality and the quality of life for the millions of people who are much less fortunate than us. So, every month, we set aside a percentage of our subscription income to be donated to various causes.
We use an organisation called B1G1 which ensures that 100% of our giving goes towards the causes of our choice. This month, our focus was providing water to those that need it most.
So, in August we supplied:
- 10 water taps to households in India
- 240 days of clean water to students in Kenya
- 1 year of clean water to hospital patients in Kenya
Household Water Taps
In India, clean water is a basic necessity, but it is often found scarce in rural areas – leaving families no other choice but to use contaminated water. Using water from unsafe sources also carries a high risk of families then contracting water borne diseases, such as cholera. Installing a water tap into households will ensure the safety of the water that comes out of it – helping to filter out microorganisms and other pathogens and thus, reduce the risk of disease.
Water for Education
In Kenya, water can be a rare commodity, so rainwater harvesting has become the most sustainable way for schools to collect, store and provide clean water to students and staff. Our contribution has gone towards the cost of constructing large water storage tanks with proper gutter and plumbing systems in a remote, rural school. Providing clean water, free from diseases and contaminants, reduces the frequency of disease-related absences, ensuring that children can remain in school and fulfil their academic potential.
Water for Hospitals
Additionally in Kenya, we have supported a hospital with clean water for one year. It’s critical that patients have access to clean water whilst in hospital, ensuring that they can recover and don’t become sicker whilst in care. Our contribution allows for the local hospital to maintain rainwater tanks, purchase new water filters, or have water trucked into the facility during drought seasons. Simply providing clean, safe water to drink and bathe in will make all the difference for the thousands of people that utilise and work in the hospital.
