At Fleetware, we think it’s important to play our part in the global effort to increase equality and the quality of life for the millions of people who are much less fortunate than us. So, every month, we set aside a percentage of our subscription income to be donated to various causes.

We use an organisation called B1G1 which ensures that 100% of our giving goes towards the causes of our choice. This month, our focus was providing education. With Australian children heading back to school in February, it was only fitting that we share the opportunity of education with others from around the world.

So, in February we supplied:

  • 10 months of education to children in mica mining areas in India
  • 5 months of secondary education to children in Zimbabwe
  • 10 weeks of meals for students in Ethiopia

Breaking the Cycle of Child Labour in India

In Jharkhand, India, children in mica mining regions face significant challenges, with many at risk of child labour due to hazardous working conditions, poverty, and limited access to education. The COVID-19 pandemic had further worsened this situation, making learning even less accessible due to low internet connectivity and a lack of digital resources. This project helps provide consistent access to education for children aged 3 – 18, including study materials, school supplies, sports equipment, digital learning tools, and mobile libraries. Through sustained academic programs and strengthened educational institutions, this project reaches over 4,400 children each year, offering an average of 295 days of education and helping empower young learners to break the cycle of poverty and child labour.

Opening Doors to Secondary Education in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, many young people face significant challenges due to widespread poverty and limited opportunities, making access to secondary education a rare but transformative opportunity. Through this project, we were able to support children in the Marondera district, funding tuition and providing essential school resources such as books, computers, water, and building repairs. This support enables students to focus on their studies, develop socially and physically, and embrace positive values and attitudes as they grow. By helping students attend local secondary schools throughout their education, this project plays a vital role in creating opportunities for a brighter future.

Fuelling Learning in Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, many young people face significant challenges due to widespread poverty and limited opportunities. At St Yared School in Addis Ababa, providing students with three well-balanced meals a day (breakfast, a morning snack, and lunch) not only alleviates short-term hunger but also gives them the energy to focus throughout the school day. Nutritious menus designed by the school’s health officer support physical growth, cognitive development, and overall health – helping students stay stronger, healthier, and more energetic than their peers from similar backgrounds. With an average school attendance rate of 98.7%, the program also creates a ripple effect, improving food security for families and freeing up household income, which can be invested in productive assets to strengthen community livelihoods.
