Greg’s Meat Transport

The Problem

Greg’s Meat Transport is a large, refrigerated transport company with multiple contracts with national retail brands for the transport of a high volume of perishable goods to both metro and regional areas. Due to fuel being one of the main costs to the business, and the nature of their operation being conducted on both public and non-public roads, the company was interested in seeing how they could maximise their fuel tax credit claims.

  • The customer was only claiming the standard 16 cents per litre fuel tax credit on their heavy vehicles and were not aware that they were eligible to claim around 42 cents per litre for both their heavy and light vehicles travelling or idling off public roads or on private property.
  • The customer was also unaware that they could claim 42 cents per litre for the use of auxiliary equipment on their heavy vehicles, such as their refrigerated trailers.
  • Mileage and fuel usage was being manually calculated by the customer, which was incredibly time-consuming and prone to error.

As a side issue, the customer had no way to confirm where their trucks were at any given moment and were also unable to confirm the delivery of goods without manual calls or messages to the driver.

The Solution

Fleetware approached the customer with a solution to their requests.

  • Our Incognito trackers were installed on prime movers, heavy rigids, and vans to track their location, speed, mileage, engine hours, and driver behaviour.
  • All the data was sent to Trackd, the GPS tracking platform. There, unit groups were created to distinguish the different types of vehicles, and custom fields were created to capture static vehicle information required for the calculation of fuel tax credits.
  • The data from Trackd is then integrated with our partner app Prism for the on-going monthly calculation of fuel tax credits, based on a combination of telematics data and customer input (such as fuel costs). A report is produced for each previous month and automatically emailed to the customer to show the amount eligible to be claimed.
  • We provided a sample of the customers typical journey data over a period to our accountant partners, who then used this sample to submit a retrospective 4-year claim for fuel tax credits.

The Trackd reports module is used to show driver behaviour including maximum and average speed, mileage, engine hours and a ranking based on Trackd’s Eco Driving parameters.

The Result

Retrospective Claim

$320,000 returned on a 4-year retrospective claim on fuel tax credits.

Maximised On-Going Claims

Average on-going increase in fuel tax credit claims of $10,000 per month, with significantly less effort required from the customer.

Live Monitoring

The customer now has live visibility of their fleet, and is able to confirm deliveries without manual intervention, improving efficiency and customer satisfaction.
